The term 'Developer' is referred to the team of people that create games. These teams can be of various size's ranging from one person to hundreds of people. When you develop a game you can be known as an Indie Developer also known as an 'Independent' Developer, you earn this title if you develop software that isn't owned by or dependent on a single publisher. A great proportion of these developers self-publish their own games, to do this they have to use the internet to their advantage by using social media to generate publicity. It becomes rather difficult for Indie Developers to become known as they don't have the budget to advertise their games unlike Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.
These companies create games that are to big for one person to complete so they hire hundreds of people to complete different part of it at the same time. This requires a great amount of teamwork and cooperation to finish at a speedy pace.
Indie Developer Profile: Mojang
Mojang founded in 2009 under the name Mojang Specifications by Markus Persson, he is best known for the creation of the independent game called Minecraft, this is a sandbox game. Mojang is based in Stockholm, Sweden. As of June 2015, over 70 million copies had been sold. They have also created other games named; Scrolls, Minecraft: Story Mode and Cobalt.
After all the growing success Mojang have been receiving, they decided to move away from being Independent and join up with Microsoft. They was offered $2.5 Billion from Microsoft in 2014. With their stakes in the company bought out, the three founders, Markus Persson, Carl Manneh and Jakob Porsér left the company.
Publishers;
A publisher is a company that publishes games that are either developed internally or by another developer. They are in charge of the manufacturing and marketing as well as the market research and all forms of advertising for their product. If a company wouldn't like to spend the money to get a outside publishing company to publishes their game. They could self-publish your own game by using social media sites. The larger video game publishers would handle the distribution of the product, whereas small publishing company's would hire outside source to handle the distribution.
Publishers can also finance the development stage and as well provide certain software that may be need need such as; Sound Packages and Code Packages, to help boost the efficiency of their workers and help create the best games possible.
Publishing Company Profile: Sony Computer Entertainment
Sony Computer Entertainment or for short (SCE), is a Japanese based company, in Tokyo, that was founded on November 16th, 1993 and has move than 8,000 employees. SCE is who handles the research and development, production and the sales of both hardware and software of the PlayStation products. The company as of March 31st, 2015 they had a massive 458 Million console sales.
Sony publishes all the exclusives that you see on that console such as the Uncharted series, LittleBigPlant, Killzone and Ratchet and Clank. These games are PlayStation exclusive gaes which means you cannot get these games on any other platform.
Console Manufacturers/First-Party Publishers;
A Publisher is the company that releases the game onto the console(s) of choice. There are three different ways to define these developers: First, Second or Third-party Publisher. The difference between each of these publishers are the platform there games will be able to be played on. If the console manufactures develop the game then this is considered a First-Party Publisher , such as Naughty Dog for Sony as they make the game series Uncharted, which can only be play on Sony's console 'PlayStation'. Another popular First-Party Publisher is Nintendo, almost all games that are released on Nintendo's products are developed by Nintendo themselves.

Nintendo are the owners of the popular games; Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon and many more. These games are popular because they are fun and they are classics. Even the older generation can get the most fun out of these kinds of games
Distribution and Retail;
Distribution;
A Video Games Distributor is a company that gets your game/games to a certain place i.e. To a store like Game or ASDA. Another form of distribution is to do it online via sites like Amazon or E-Bay if you are to do it this way then Amazon would be distribution the product to you.
Retail;
A Video Game Retailer is a store that after receiving the games from the distributor sells the games to make money then the is split between them all. A good example is the store Game, it is a very popular place for people to go and purchase your games at a decent price. On certain holidays these stores can do special deals that inspire people to shop there like Black Friday for example. These deals can include special discounted price or bundles to persuade the buyer.
Video Game Retailer: GAME;
GAME is a Retailing company that deals with the sales of a multitude variety. GAME was founded in 1991 by Terry Norris and Bev Ripley. In March 2012, a few companies like Nintendo, Electronic Arts and Cap-Com refuse to supply GAME with their latest games because of Game's creditworthiness. The company operated in United Kingdom and was known from its high street name Game and Gamestation. From the late 2012's these stores combined to created a sole store which was named Game.
Video Game Digital Distributor: Steam;
Steam is a digital distributor that is developed by Valve Corporation. Steam allows the user with a installation of video games that is very user friendly and very easy/fast.By May 2015, 13 million accounts had been created and 150 games were available to be purchased on the platform. As of September 2015, over 6,400 games are accessible through the platform, The service has over 125 million active gamer's.
Outsourcing Companies;
Outsourcing involves the contracting out of a business process to another party. Sometimes outsourcing means the transferring of employees from one company to another for a short period of time to help with the creation of a product for any type of creative media; games, films and others.
To 'Outsource' it is believed to help either sides of the agreement as it provide the employees with some experience and it help with the costs of making a game by reducing the cost of the taxes, the energy bill as well as the production/labor costs it also save the a lot of time and you will have a improved end product than is you didn't outsource.
Video Game outsourcing Company: Streamline Studios;
Streamline Studios where founded in Hilversum Netherlands, in 2001 as a video game developing company that also outsources employees to help with the creation of other games and media. They have worked on a Coke-Cola advert, Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004, Saints Row, Gears of War and the film Avatar. They have there headquarters in Amsterdam now instead of in the Netherlands.

Press and Media is a way to inform the public on the latest news on the most popular subjects. This includes all types of media, games, films, television you name it the internet has got it. The easiest way to show your thought and opinions is through a blog or a website where many people go to to talk about the same things. It can also be used to generate ideas from the public that could be potentially be placed into a game or other media formats.

IGN, or formally known as Imagine Games Network, is a San Francisco-based games and entertainment media company and was founded in September 29th, 1996 by Keith Jennings. This company focuses on the media surrounding video games, films, television and other forms of media.
In June 2005, IGN where believed to be getting 24,000,000 unique visitors every single month, with 4.8 million accounts registered to the website. In September of that same year, Rupert Murdoch acquired this company for $650 million.
They are known for giving their thoughts on recent games and other media and their reviews that where given. IGN started off with a rating scale of at 0.1 to 10.0 but throughout the years they have been changing this scale and as of September 13, 2012 they have a rating scale that would go all the way to 100 kind of like MetaCritic.
